More info

Copepods are tiny crustaceans that float freely in the ocean. There are innumerous copepod species that vary their body shape size. Calanoids, like Acartia tonsa, constitute the majority of the zooplankton in marine waters.

Acartia tonsa is an herbivorous copepod, which actively feed on microalgae – or phytoplankton – by creating a water flux with their appendix. It can eat all sort of phytoplankton species, but the one that puts them at full power is Rhodomonas lens.

How to use

On the arrival day, pour the whole bottle to your system. Turn off the protein skimmer for about 1h, to allow feeding. Copepods will be drawn to light, so don’t be surprised if you see a small blot on water top.

For non-motile copepod-feeding species (ex.: sun polyps), consider offering them directly upon the animal, using a small pipette.

Usage depends on aquarium stocking. If you have a highly populated aquarium, please considered using a higher copepod concentration.

Benefits

Trickier species, like some corals, mandarins and sea horses are also dependent on a more eclectic food source. AQUA CPods will help you keep your tank-diva as happier as they can be!

Acartia tonsa is also a filter-feeder, which means that will go around your tank feeding on potential microalgae that might be developing on it.
